If Time Travel Was Real: My First Adventure
I
am a normal university student, and I am taking the finance and investment
course in university. Every day I live a boring day after day. One day when I
was browsing the second-hand market, I saw a remote control that said
"universal remote control" on its badly damaged packaging. Curiosity
drove me to wonder how omnipotent it was. So, I bought it. On the way back to
the dormitory, I unpacked the remote and started playing with it. When I
pressed the previous song button, the next second, I woke up in my bed. Just
when I thought it was just a dream, I got out of bed and looked at my phone and
realized that I had travelled back to when I first entered university.
At first, I was in complete shock. My dorm room looked exactly as it did on my first day, with my old textbooks still in their original plastic wrapping and my schedule lying on my desk. Outside, I heard the same hustle and bustle of students arriving for their first day. It was surreal. Had I really travelled back in time? Or was this some elaborate illusion? To confirm my suspicions, I rushed outside and saw my past self walking toward the cafeteria. I could remember every single detail of that day, down to the awkward conversations and nervous excitement. It was then that I realized the remote was not just any remote—it had the power to control time. Curious about its full capabilities, I began experimenting with the remote. I pressed "pause," and everything around me froze. The students stopped mid-step, birds hovered in the air without moving, and even the wind seemed to have halted. Pressing "play" resumed time as if nothing had happened. Then, I pressed "fast forward"—suddenly, days blurred past in an instant. When I pressed "rewind," I was thrown back to moments I had already experienced. The possibilities were endless.
At first, I saw this as an incredible opportunity. I could use the remote to change my past mistakes, improve my grades, and even invest in stocks I knew would soar. As a finance student, the temptation to manipulate the market was too strong to ignore. I travelled a few weeks ahead, noted which stocks had skyrocketed, and then returned to the past to invest in them. Sure enough, my bank account grew exponentially. But then things began to go wrong. I heard students talking about financial news one day, and they brought up a company that was predicted to fail but was suddenly surprisingly doing well. I had accidentally changed the development of history. Some of my friends had never met me, professors I knew were missing from the organisation, and news headlines had changed. Every little adjustment I made had an impact that changed the course of events in unanticipated ways. The situation quickly spiralled out of my control. No matter how hard I tried to fix things, the more I do, the worse it got. I realized that I had become trapped in an endless cycle of changes, and the future I once knew was slipping away.
Faced with a critical decision, I knew I had to reset everything. I held the remote tightly and searched for a way to restore the original timeline. There was only one option left: the "reset" button. With a deep breath, I pressed it. The next moment, I woke up in my dormitory once again. The date on my phone showed the present day, and the remote control was nowhere to be found. Had it all been a dream? Or had I truly manipulated time? Regardless, I felt a newfound appreciation for the unpredictability of life. I learned an important lesson in these cases some things are meant to happen naturally. From that day forward, I chose to live in the moment, accept both the good and the bad, knowing that the future is best left to unfold on its own.
